What we are all about

Living on the Edge is the field study of earthquakes, volcanoes, and other hazards where tectonic plates collide. Field studies focus on understanding the science behind natural hazards that lead to catastrophic events and subsequent loss of life. Fieldwork is aimed at recognizing hazards and understanding the processes behind the hazards. The blog chronicles the participants and their experiences in Alaska Summer 2009

All Okay

In case you heard there was an earthquake in Anchorage this morning (Monday) . We didn't feel it
and we are proceeding as planned on our way to Donnelly Creek in the Central Alaska Range.
Just wanted everyone to know that we are all okay.

  1. We received the phone message that all is ok with the group. Glad to hear it! Good thing I hadn't seen the news BEFORE I got the message. ;) Looking forward to more exciting stories and photos!

  3. I'll bet if there was a Californian on the trip, someone would have felt it. My sister and I can gauge Richter scale measurements within 0.3!

  4. The quake was certainly no one's fault, although the application of such recently acquired knowledge is, admittedly, quite uplifting. NOAA has been under pressure using systematic, not erratic, responses to the numerous quakes of late.

May your journey continue to ebb and flow through more moving experiences.

  5. After reading some of the students profiles and viewing those wonderful scenes we have to recognise the Professors and the people that
coordinated this event. Excellent work guys.
